Over 20 Million Euros Spent in Neste Rally Finland - Economically significant for Jyväskylä with extremely positive image effect

22.11.2017 09:00The results of the Neste Rally Finland economic impact study have been published. During the event, spectators, corporate guests, teams and media representatives spent a total of 20.2 million euros on products and services. Direct economic impacts for the Jyväskylä region are approximately 14.4 million euros. The image effect of the World Rally Championship event for Jyväskylä is extremely positive and the city is seen as an attractive travel destination both domestically and internationally.

The 2017 study was conducted by the JAMK Sport Business School Finland on assignment for AKK Sports and the city of Jyväskylä with the aim of finding out the direct economic impacts Neste Rally Finland has on the event areas. Data was gathered from the Jyväskylä area residents, rally teams, rally-goers, volunteers working at the event as well as media representatives.

In an equivalent study made in 2013, total spending during the event was approximately 17 million euros.  

Rally important for the economy and image of Jyväskylä

In 2017, the economic impact of Neste Rally Finland for the Jyväskylä region was 14.4 million euros. The event is an important factor for the vitality of the Jyväskylä region. Rally organiser AKK Sports purchased services and products from the Jyväskylä region businesses for over 1.2 million euros. That includes e.g. maintenance for the roads used as special stages, products and services bought from local businesses as well as compensation paid for the sports clubs responsible for the special stages.

Spectators and corporate guests see Rally Finland's impact on the image of the city of Jyväskylä as extermely positive, and especially the positive attitude towards Jyväskylä as a domestic destination, international destination and as a host city for various events has gone up since the 2013 study. 

Rally-goers, local residents, teams, media representatives and volunteers all feel it is important that Jyväskylä continues as the Rally Finland host city in the future. Also, as many as 96 percent of the spectators, 79 percent of the rally team members, 78 percent of the corporate guests, 75 percent of the volunteers and 74 percent of the media representatives taking part in the survey would either recommend or definitely recommend the event.

This year's event was an overall success, and it is great that we can continue on this successful path together”, says Neste Rally Finland Promoter Jani Backman.

“It is fantastic that Jyväskylä will continue as Neste Rally Finland host city. We have signed a contract for 2018 - 2020, and I believe that our excellent partnership with AKK Sports Ltd will carry on even beyond that”, says the mayor of Jyväskylä Timo Koivisto.
